OT gem outburst !

OT gem, HD58050, Be star, has ran in activities. Double Ha peak get stronger in my last spectra.There is not a lot of spectra available in Bess, but such activities were seen from 1996 to 2001 by Valerie Desnoux and Christian Buil. Intensives observations are needing to constrain a possible period of the phenomena.

It's always a great pleasure to observe such regain of a sleepy star. It's very exiting and very rare. That's why i do love spectral observations.

Edit: confirmation came from Valerie Desnoux frim and her new observatory in Paris on Jan 16Th.

That's the third outburst of a Be star that i had personnaly detected over 400 spectra covering one year of Be observations.

Congratulations for your spectral observations that I just happen to look at. I took photos of the OT Gem field on 16 , 20 and 21 Jan 2011, while spotting asteroid 28 Bellona cruising nearby. From these photos that's not easy to tell "at view" whether OT Gem is significantly brighter than usual or not. I intend to visually estimate the star brightness as soon as the sky will allow. I am the one who obtained the classification of OT Gem (previously a suspected variable) as a variable star by the GCVS, 30 years ago. I have made in the past lots of visual estimates of this star so that I can tell at first glance whether its brightness is standard or not. Regards Alain
